Hey, friends – I mean it when I ask: how are you? Because I'm doing splendidly well! Last time I sent out an email update, I was in desperate need of a long break. Not to mention, I celebrated my 42nd birthday in there, so that was fun. But the time away from consuming weekly content to then digest and share with y'all gave me much-needed space for deep personal reflection. And boy does my soul feel truckloads lighter. I plan to return to "regularly scheduled newsletter programming" next week. To be perfectly transparent, I am deprioritizing The Edit, as based on survey results, it is the one issue of this newsletter almost none of y'all find value in. That said, the Copywriter Column and Weekly Round Up will continue on per usual! There are also some other (personal) shifts taking place in the coming weeks, but I'll have a separate announcement for that soon, so hold on tight. Grateful for you – my readers – for sticking with me all these years. Some of y'all have been reading for 5+ years and it's just wild to me. Eager to continue learning, sharing, and growing with each of you here! Chat soon, Matt |

Epictetus' Discourses and Selected Writings In reading Epictetus this morning, he said something that resonated with me. It’s as if I were to say to an athlete, ‘show me your shoulders,’ and he responded with, ‘have a look at my weights.’‘Get out of here with you and your gigantic weights!’ I’d say, ‘What I want to see isn’t the weights but how you’ve profited from using them.’ It emerges from a passage on progress. Epictetus is saying that you can read all the books in the world, but that’s...
