One step at a time.

One step at a time.

About three mornings every week, I get up well before the sun breaks over the horizon, strap a 30lb. plate to my back, and start walking.

A quarter of a mile into my walk – still sleepy-eyed because I’ve only been awake 10 minutes – I encounter this massive flight of stairs.

I never look up. I only look down because my focus isn’t on climbing the flight of stairs – it’s on simply taking the next step.

And then the next.
And the next one after that.
And then the one after that.

All until I get to the very top when my legs are undoubtedly burning and my heart is ready to pound out of my chest.

It’s a wonderful way to wake up. But it’s also a great reminder about how to do hard things.

In case you missed it last week, I announced I’m leaving Homestead Studio at the end of the month, and started my own micro-agency.

While I’ve done the work I’m offering to prospective clients thousands of times (quite literally), I’ve never started an agency before. It’s entirely new to me. In a sense, that is my flight of stairs.

But my lack of “experience” isn’t what matters.

What matters is that I just identify my next step and take it.

What’s your flight of stairs?
