The quiet tug to bend what you believe

Hey Reader,

There's a particular kind of pressure that shows up around the middle of June.

The first half of the year is closing out, and the numbers come in a little short.

So the ask comes down, in one form or another: we need to push harder this month.

Nobody ever asks you to lie. They just ask you to be a little more urgent, a little more aggressive.

And every request, taken on its own, sounds completely fair.

That's what makes it so easy to drift somewhere you wouldn't have chosen on purpose.

This week's piece is about what happens to good brands when that pressure shows up.

It's also about how to hold your ground without going soft. Because honest selling still sells. Sometimes harder.

If you've felt that quiet tug to bend what you believe, I think you'll recognize a lot of it.

Hey, friends –Most freelancers spend their quiet weeks catching up on admin or feeling guilty about the lighter calendar. But it's worth asking: what's the piece in your own work that's been half finished for three months because there was never enough room to do it right? Now, go pull up something you wrote a year or two ago. Is it still holding up, or has your thinking moved past it?In today's issue of The Edit, I write about why these slow seasons are blessings in disguise and why you...

Hey gang –It's Friday, which means I've rounded up a bunch of good reads for you. But before we do, a note about this week's sponsor: Schlomo Genchin!Shlomo (one of my favorite online copywriting pals) just launched CopyTemplates. If you write ads, emails, or landing pages, it's a massive resource. And as an early gift to my subscribers, you can get...
